Christmastime! We had a busy turkey day and turkey day weekend!  Andy and I took the week of Thanksgiving off because we had a lot to do around the house.  Andy wanted to get all the carpets steam-cleaned and I needed to get general cleaning and cooking done.  It was a busy few days, but we got it all done.  On Turkey Day, we had some friends over and it was a great day.  We relaxed, hung out, ate WAAAYYYYYYY too much food, and watched a movie.  It was just what we all needed.  On Friday, we began the annual decoration of the Kassel household for Christmas.  We have discovered that Laura loves the Christmas tree, Christmas lights, inflatable Christmas decorations, etc.  We took her to Home Depot and Lowe's to pick up a few things and she was just loving all the decorations.  She was laughing so loud and full of big smiles.  It was so much fun to watch.  In the end, we enjoyed watching her so much that we bought a four-foot inflatable Christmas Penguin for our yard.  When Andy and Uncle B were setting up the penguin in our yard, Laura kept hugging it.  We are looking forward to taking her to the "Magic Tree" here in town.  It is quite a sight to see.

On another Laura note, we took her to her first Mizzou basketball game.  The Dean of the College of Business offered Andy and I tickets because Mizzou was playing Western Illinois University.  So, we went to that.  It was a blowout for Mizzou, but we wouldn't have expected any less.  During the game, Laura got to meet Truman the Tiger.  She LOVED him.  She wasn't afraid of him or anything.  In fact, she loved him so much that we had to leave the game because she threw a fit when Andy took her away from him.  I tried taking her up to the concourse to distract her and that worked until we went back into the arena.  Once she saw Truman, she started screaming for him again.  It was actually funny and we were both happy that she really liked him.

Aside from that, things are good in the Kassel household.  I have to get our Christmas photo cards ordered and hope to do that this week.  I still have to put up our little two-foot Christmas tree, but that is all I have left for the house.  It will be a very busy December and Christmas season as always, but this is my favorite time of year.  I can't wait to take Laura around town to see the lights.  Have a great holiday season!

WoW GeeksEleven years have come and gone faster than I could have imagined. It seems like just yesterday we were waking up to our first day as a married couple. Like any marriage, there have been a few ups and downs and bumps in the road here and there, but overall I think we both know we have a wonderful relationship, a great friendship, and these things have kept us happy (and together!) for the past 11 years.

Enough with the mushy stuff! You want to know what's been happening lately! Well, obviously we just celebrated our anniversary. As usual, we took the day off of work. Laura went to day care, and we hit the road for a day in Herrmann, Missouri. After too much breakfast at IHOP, we headed South to Jefferson City to take the scenic route (Missouri Highway 100) to Herrmann on the South side of the river. Unfortunately we discovered that 100 was totally closed down for repairs to the railroad crossing approaching Chamois, Missouri. We didn't really have enough gas at the time to get back to Linn and go all the way around, so thankfully one of the workers gave us directions to a gravel county road to get around. We couldn't go more than about 20 on the road since it was one lane the whole way, hilly, winding, and gravel. It added about half an hour or so to the trip, but it was worth the dirt on the car because it was beautiful. Central Missouri is just barely past peak fall color for the year. With the dry summer I was expecting nothing but brown but it turned out to be really pretty.
