Hello All!  At this point, you are probably wondering why we haven't posted anything in a while.  Let's just say that the illness that we all had in January either stuck around or we got another round of something else.  It was the illness from hell.  It started with Laura picking up the viral form of pink eye.  There is nothing you can do for that other than wait it out.  The symptoms are the red, watery, goopy eyes and stuffy nose, coughing, etc.  A couple of days after Laura came down with pink eye, I started to feel sick.  I figured it was just a cold and I could wait it out.  Basically the symptoms are fever, very severe congestion, coughing, etc.  Since I'm pregnant, I didn't really think there was anything a doctor could do for me anyway.  I stayed home from work for three days (Monday-Wednesday).  I finally returned to work on Thursday and made it about a half day before going home.  So, that Friday I gave in and went to the doctor.  The doctor took a flu swab, which was negative, and then prescribed Amoxicillin.  Amoxicillin is considered an extremely safe antibiotic to take when pregnant.

At this time, Andy was starting to feel sick.  On Saturday, I was feeling a little better, so I took Laura to her Kindermusik class.  After her class, we took Andy to Urgent Care.  He didn't want Laura sitting in that waiting room so I took her to lunch at McDonald's and then we went shopping.  After Andy waited three hours, they took a flu swab and then prescribed Tamiflu even though the results of the swab were not back yet.  Turns out that after paying $80 for the Tamiflu, his flu swab came back negative.  Throughout the weekend, Andy continued to get worse.  The congestion with this viral/bacterial infection is so bad that you simply cannot breathe through your nose.

The following Monday, Laura had to go into the doctor for her second flu shot.  Andy went with us and they got him in to see another doctor.  This doctor prescribed Amoxicillin because his symptoms were similar to mine and, since I was slowly getting better, it made sense.  The doctor felt that we had a combination of a viral and bacterial infection.  He did tell Andy to continue taking the Tamiflu.  Well, here it is five days later and we are both FINALLY feeling better.  We are not 100%, but we can at least breathe through our noses and function again.  I don't know what this stuff was, but it was nasty.  Thank goodness that Laura was feeling better by the time we started this stuff because, otherwise, we would have just been screwed.  We are hoping so much that we are finally all done and getting past all this illness so cross your fingers for us!  One side note on this illness though.....I coughed so hard that I have pulled a muscle on my left side.  It basically hurts every time I do anything!

Oh, and the littlest Kassel is doing fine.  I've been feeling it move here and there so things seem to be progressing well.  We find out in two weeks what we are having.....stay tuned!
